A Day of First Times

January 12, 2012, was a long awaited day for our family. For months there was talk of graduation, a new house, sad good byes, new friends, and amazing new adventures.

On the list of talk was the long awaited, first trip to the airport and flight on a jet plane. The excitement of riding on an airplane was keeping us all on a positive move forward to the unknown, new life.

Grandpa and Grandma were our taxi to Salt Lake City. We were so grateful to have them go with us. They added to our adventure and we wanted to spend every second we could with them as Indiana is too far away for a weekend family visit.

Everyone took turns running the elevator buttons. It was a bit comical to see our kids experience "technology" for the first time. How many of you take the elevator with such excitement? I'm sure it has been awhile since you've fought the guy next to you for the chance to push the button!

Good hotel help is so hard to find these days! Must have been this guy's first time to see so many kids with so much luggage. If I had seen us coming, I would have run the other way!

8 bags, 3 car seats, 6 back packs, 1 stroller and yes, 4 kids with 1 shaky mom and 1 brave Super-Dad off on their first trip across the United States

First time in an airport shuttle van. All smiles!

First time on an airport escalator. Once they got over their nerves, they of course did not want to stop taking rides on the moving stairs with Grandpa and Dad.

All buckled in for their first ride on a plane destined for a new home.

Everyone did fine on the flight. David enjoyed about every minute. He had many a flash back to the times his parents would take his family on vacation.
Zachary loved every second. In Denver he watch a 747 preping for a flight to Germany. He really couldn't get enough.
Joshua loved the take-offs and slept during the final landing in Indianapolis. He seemed to really love the newness of everything.
Macey was excited and did well in the beginning. She colored and drew alot of nice pictures, and ate chicken nuggets in Denver. ;) The landing into Indy was a long wait as it was stormy. Macey's ears were hurting her, she cried and cried to go home. I felt so bad for her. There wasn't much I could do to help her. She was glad to get landed and then did fine.
Nathan slept through the first leg to Denver, loved running in the airport, and just wanted out of his seat by the time we landed. I think his ears were hurting him some too.
Then there's me, I like the take-offs, but I prefer my feet to be FIRMLY on the ground!

Overall, a very good start to a whole lot of FIRSTS for the new year!

Indy Newby Wins Race

We are learing more about our new state.

Two things Indiana is known for
(aside from the recent SuperBowl)

HOOSIER'S BASKETBALL &

INDY CAR RACING so...

I guess it makes sense that Zachary would get right in on the racing action. At our second week of church attendance here, it was announced that the scouts would be having a pine wood derby car race in three days. Other kids had already been preparing for a while, but David asked for a kit anyway. With the race days away and David starting his "real" job (after a week of training) we just weren't sure we could get a car done in time to race. Not to mention the fact that any tools we have were still in boxes since moving.

Zachary loves to get David's old derby cars out to play with. He has even taken them to show and tell at school. Now was his chance to have his very own and he was too excited to let a time crunch slow him down.

David vowed that he was not going to make the car for him, so Zachary set to work. He drew the design, David cut it out, and Zachary got to work sanding. With help from his dad (Hurray, Dad doesn't have homework!) Zachary's car was ready in the nic o' time.

When Zachary and David got home from the race you would have thought Zachary had won the real Indy race. He was so proud! He won fastest car at the races, was invited to take his car to the district race and he made a bunch of new friends!

IT'S FUN TO BE A KID!

Engineering Project Dec 2011

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy", so the saying goes. Some also say that blondes have the most fun. Well... I might be prone to say that engineering students "at work" may have the most fun because their work certainly looks like play!

Here follows some photos of a team project that David worked on, along with evidence of some play. No dull here!

Most of you will ask, "What is it?"
Perhaps engineer art. Well...

I got a good laugh from it one night. I walked in our bedroom while David was doing homework and instantly thought LEG LAMP!

You know... a leg lamp, from the movie "A Christmas Story"! Can you blame me? It was Christmas time.

It is actually a ping-pong shooting gatling gun with an electronic trigger, but you knew that right?

Grandma Marie gets some target practice time before graduation commencement!

Grandpa Van is the willing target!
